About this deal

To prepare my hair for a future colour – I advice waiting at least 48 hours after doing a colour removal to see what you are left with. Oxidisation after colour removers can occur up to 48 hours after. Leaving you with a darker result. Almost 75 percent of American women and men color their hair. If you're one of them, there's a chance that you might not be completely satisfied with the result. No matter whether it’s a post-salon job that you’re not excited about or a DIY hair coloring situation gone horribly wrong, hair color snafus can and do happen. That’s where hair color removers come in, essentially acting as magic erasers to strip out the unwanted dye. The big caveat here? In an ideal world, it’s always best to have a professional do any kind of color removing and/or correction, cautions colorist Kristen Fleming, color director of 3rd Coast Salon in Chicago, who notes that it’s a complicated process even for the pros. That being said, if you are going to take matters into your own hands, here’s what you need to know.

There are a lot of DIY hair colour remover suggestions you’ll come across when you search online. Some people will suggest baking powder and dandruff shampoo, others will say vinegar and others lemon juice. The buffer made my hair feel so dry I thought it would snap! It was like the strongest clarifying shampoo ever. I honestly was concerned!

Some people found that they could leave their hair that way after de-colouring it. The remover works evenly without leaving any blotches and uneven coloured spots. But if you are not comfortable with the final colour, you can use a dye immediately after. What we like about it: It is said that every time we remove one color we risk the chance of our hair being damaged. Like when you dye your hair if not handled correctly you can have lots of damage. Find a gentle moisturizer free of bleach and ammonia to remove the dye. If you have these two ingredients present you may do more damage than good.

The results were much like I expect they would be. I did think the ends might be a bit lighter than the result, but I think this was down to staining from the Bronze Metallic. My hair is sitting around a base shade 7 with warm/golden under tones. I did mix a little my of Cool colour shot conditioner with the conditioner in this kit to tone down the orange. But this will wash out over the next wash or 2. The Scott Cornwall Decolour strips out all kinds of permanent hair dye and you can reapply hair colour immediately.Combine both ingredients and create a mix. Damp your hair using warm water, then shampoo your hair using the baking soda mixture.

Both experts recommend this particular product. “It’s affordable and gentle, and even though your hair may feel dry after, it won’t be damaged,” notes Fleming. (Credit the addition of moisturizing soy proteins and aloe in the formula.) It works in just 20 minutes and is effective for removing both semi-permanent and permanent color. Once rinsed, apply half the bottle of the buffer solution and work it into the hair as you would a normal shampoo. Do this process for three are more consecutive days to get desired shade. Baking soda and Shampoo to Remove Hair Color Conditioner:AQUA (WATER, EAU), GLYCERYL STEARATE, STEARYL ALCOHOL, GLYCERIN, CETYL ALCOHOL, HELIANTHUS ANNUUS (SUNFLOWER) SEED OIL, CETRIMONIUM CHLORIDE, CAPRYLIC/CAPRIC TRIGLYCERIDE, PARFUM (FRAGRANCE), PHENOXYETHANOL, CITRIC ACID, ARGANIA SPINOSA KERNEL OIL, PANTHENOL, ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN, HYDROXYPROPYLTRIMONIUM HYDROLYZED WHEAT PROTEIN, PANTOLACTONE, SODIUM BENZOATE, POTASSIUM SORBATE, LINALOOL.Leave it on your hair for up to 20 minutes, rinse out with warm water, and condition your hair with a deep conditioner. The tedious amount of rinsing drives me insane. This is why I’d usually f avour the Decolour Remover (Review here) Color remover is bleach-free, and contains a color-reducing agent to remove semi-permanent and permanent color, while bleach acts to lighten hair. Just like bleach, color remover can cause breakage and damage hair, depending on its condition. While most hair colour removers require that you wait several days or even weeks before you apply new colour, you can re-colour your hair immediately after using the L’OREAL ColorZap colour remover. In fact, L’OREAL advices that you plan to re-dye your hair immediately. One thing to note: When talking about hair colour removers, we are talking about permanent hair colour removers. Most hair colour removers work best on permanent, not semi-permanent, hair colour. For semi-permanent dye, you can either rinse it out or wait for it to fade on its own.
