About this deal

Adele Parks MBE is one of the most-loved and biggest-selling women's fiction writers in the UK. She has sold over 4 million books and her work has been translated into 30 different languages. That’s such a hard question! Especially because I know so many authors now and I’m emotionally involved with them if they’re my friend – so it’s virtually impossible to choose just one. That said, I love Kate Atkinson’s novels. I’ve never heard her talk at a festival, but I always buy one of her books the minute it comes out. She’s admirably versatile; she’s written family drama, crime detective series and each one is always brilliant. What’s been your favourite read of 2022 so far? Rose doesn’t have the vocabulary to describe Lucy, she doesn’t like using expletives. A devoted single mum, she fills her life with labeling school uniforms, organic vegetables and car runs for extracurricular activities. She’s an exemplary mother but the boys seem to need her less and less and without them she wonders what she amounts to. Her friends are concerned that her life is devoid of passion, romance or even plans for the future.

I recieved a free digital copy from the publishers through netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinipns expressed are my own and given freely. The characters weren't particularly well drawn and it's quite tough to sympathise with any of them, even when they are struggling with aspects of their lives. None of them seem particularly likeable and even when there comes a time where you are perhaps encouraged to sympathise with one character, or take sides after disagreements between them; I simply found that I couldn't be bothered. By that point, I was just too bored with the whole thing.

Summary

I hope they live happily ever after. I enjoy Adele Parks writing and recently finished Lies, Lies, Lies, so I was excited to see another new book so soon… turns out it’s not so new! First released 20 years ago you can definitely tell how Adele’s style has changed and her writing has improved over the years.

The result is an interesting mix of modern relationships, and at times the reader is rooting for various characters. Rose lost some credibility with me when she was finally on a date with Craig, and then ran off when she heard something about Lucy and Peter that was absolutely none of her business. I was so pleased when her new friends agreed with me! I’m old-school so I’d love to invite Mr Darcy to an imaginative dinner party. What one book should everybody read in their lifetime? Akhirnya kelar juga baca buku ini. Perasaan lamaaaaa banget. Dan emang lama sih karena aku bukan fast reader. Connie was pathetic and she was so annoying and stupid that i couldn't even enjoy her character growth, which was rushed compared to the rest of the story which seemed to crawl by.Connie and Luke have been happily married for 9 months and are still in their “Honeymoon Period.” At a work conference after heavily drinking, she shamelessly flirts with John Harding, their companies are merging so they will be soon working alongside each other. Can she face John again? Adele attributes her considerable visibility to her chatty persona. She is also fairly opinionated. As such, while many of her peers in the publishing arena would rather disappear behind a computer, Adele is out in public making her voice heard. Lucy - stole Rose's 'happy-ever-after'. Beautiful, Blonde career Mummy. Kid has a stupid pretentious name. Yawn.

Don't miss Adele's latest gripping novel, Both of You, out now! And look for One Last Secret, coming soon. Lucy wanted her happily ever after but now she’s starting to believe that there might be no such thing. Over time she starts to have what she thinks are feelings for John and deep down inside she knows he is wrong for her but she gets desperate and things start to catch up with her and she makes mistakes. The person she never wants to find out about the affair finds out ……… what will the recriminations be? Will Connie come to her senses…. Also right under her eyes another forbidden coupling is going on….. I always keep reading through difficult times. If there’s something I need more information on, I usually go and find a book to find out more. Sadly, our family was hammered with suicide a few years ago, so I bought a book about suicide which helped me feel less alone. If you are going through something difficult, whether that’s a bereavement, stress at work or relationship troubles, there will always be a book on it. Favourite literary character? I've just finished reading this book, and I struggled to finish it. It took me a while, and I literally needed breaks in-between chapters because of how frustrated I would get with the characters.

I do love a bit of non-fiction, especially if it’s a handbook. This is a controversial one, but I found Gina Ford’s baby guide incredibly useful. My son is 21 now but, when I was pregnant, I remember sitting on a bench because I was so exhausted and another pregnant woman sat down next to me. She took one look at me and said, "I just read Gina Ford’s Contented Little Baby Book, and it’s great.” Because I was a bit clueless and quite desperate, I waddled over to WHSmith and bought it there and then. I wouldn’t say I lived by it because it’s quite strict and regimented – and overwhelming in some ways – but I used it to help me feel empowered rather than intimidated by motherhood. The idea of getting into a routine worked for me as a young single mother at the time. Do you read poetry? Spectacularly unsuitable and overwhelmingly sexy, he's about to destroy her peace of mind and her happily ever after, yet she just can't seem to resist. And when her boys begin to need her less, it becomes clear to Rose that Lucy’s life is devoid of real purpose or passion.

And 2. It is not her fault I did not enjoy this story. She is a great writer, but I am simply the wrong target audience for this book. I am neither a wife, nor a mother, and this book seems to be targeted at both, and probably a wider bunch of females. I am not one of them, I did not relate to the situations, and I did not connect to the characters the way I'm sure others have. I am simply put, not the targeted audience for this book. Parks, Adele (27 September 2019). "My son is off to uni and I'm excited, not bereft... So why am I made to feel like a bad mother?". The Telegraph. Archived from the original on 27 September 2019. Adele Parks takes readers into the lives of both families as they try to reconcile the fact that Katherine and Olivia grew up in the wrong homes and must now determine how they will proceed as a family. In 2020, Parks entered a deal with MPCA and Engage Productions for cinematic adaptations of her books. [6] Spectacularly unsuitable and overwhelmingly sexy, he’s about to destroy her peace of mind and her happily ever after, yet she just can’t seem to resist.Wiseman, Andreas (16 November 2020). " 'The Princess Switch: Switched Again' Producers Ink Deal With UK Novelist Adele Parks For Movie Adaptations". Deadline . Retrieved 23 November 2021. When you read this book, you'll admire the way Adele Parks made her characters in this book. She divided her stories into three (four at last) point of views. She made difference between these three of characters. She is good in it. I love her intelligence. When she act as Rose, the story told by a nice mum. When Lucy told, she told us like she was a good mistress, with unsteady emotions, and bad scenes. When John took part in the story, Adele wrote as a bad boy with impure mind. The term the grass is not always greener is a hard lesson for Connie, she was a bit of a wild child until she met Luke. They fell in love, got married, have a wonderful home and life is going well, even some of her friends are aiming for the same. While not my favourite of her books, and feeling a little predictable, I still found myself wanting more and to see what happened next. It was nice to find that Lies, Lies, Lies is effectively the third in this story following the same four friends and I found myself moving onto the second in the series (that isn’t written as a series in a conventional way!) and I moved directly onto Young Wives’ Tales! Not having read any of Adele Parks' other novels, I'm not sure if this is just a really poor choice from her books or if this really is as good as she gets. Needless to say, she's not an author I shall be reading anything more of, as I'd much rather read something I'd enjoy.
