If you are in the market for a quality pair of high powered binoculars that are simply a joy to use - try out these Canon 15 x 50s.

More critical focus is an issue when going quickly from near to far, but can be overcome with some tricks. I visited numerous open clusters including, but not limited to M41, M46/47, M48, NGC2451, M35, M36, M37, and M38. That one also worked flawlessly with lithium batteries, but struggled with rechargeables and was a bit iffy with its supplied alkaline batteries, which had been inside this demo model for a while.The original 10x30 "swam" quite a lot, but the latest 12x36 (Mk III) I tested didn't appear to swim at all. They have sharp and well corrected optics like larger models, but without UD glass, weather proofing, or continuous IS operation. The details will follow, but to sum up IS 15x50 were as good in terms of reach and resolution, and often even better than conventional 15x70 on monopod.

My only criticisms are the weight and the eye relief(only 15mm), but these minor inconveniences are greatly outweighed by the spectacular optics. If you want ultra-light, the 10x30 are great as well - but you have to keep the stabilization button depressed on those, while the 15x50 are on/off.Right-eye dioptric correction, twist-up eyecups, and a wide interpupillary adjustment range rounds out the features of these binoculars that will become your go-to optic for any outdoor activity. The Zeiss, although it (like the Canon 10x42) delivers tack-sharp views, gets the least use, because it is relatively bulky and not as pocketable as the Canons. With the one I had on loan, I viewed stars a few times, and the images remained pinpoint with the stabilizer on, meaning that the stabilizer did not begin to wander off axis on its own, and there was no need to disengage/engage the IS to keep the image optimum.
