About this deal

The handle bar mits are water proof, insulated, and comes in sifferent models and colors, with all the safety features every riders looks for. That said, in the past four years I’ve never had a pair of Bar Mitts stolen or heard of someone who has. The other major, general benefit of pogies is that since you can wear much thinner gloves in the Mitts, you have improved dexterity of the controls when compared to thicker winter gloves.

I was intrigued by the Bar Mitts idea, since it reminded me of my Kayak Pogies, which allowed you to have direct hand contact with the paddle shaft, yet still provided adequate warmth in cold water. This generally works well enough, but it can be a bit awkward to blindly reach a hand into the sleeve to fish this around. I can wear my monstrous ski gloves to keep my hands warm, but I loose a great deal of dexterity, and they still get cold on a long ride.

e., gloves that are normally only good down to 40 degrees can now be used down to at least 20 degrees. The Bar Mitts solve both of my issues, as I get to wear lighter gloves for greater tactile feel and dexterity, and my hands stay warm. Double stitching along the folded seams creates a wind tight seal, and a heavy duty zipper (for externally routed cables) should hold up to years of abuse.

Finally, one other unexpected bonus that I noted from using the Bar Mitts is that when I’d stop to take photos, mess with my gear, or lay my bike down for any reason–whether intentional, or unintentional in a crash–having the mitts over my bars kept my grips dry. The design keeps your hands and bars completely protected from the elements and gives you better circulation. gets cold enough to start compromising good function of grease, suspension forks, and the DOT fluid in hydro brakes.

Neoprene is used in a broad industry spectrum, for applications such as adhesives and coatings, automotive, construction, wire and cable, and industrial. Neoprene polychloroprene is a synthetic rubber, that was invented by DuPont scientists in 1930, and is produced by polymerization of chloroprene (C4H5Cl).I had originally thought I would only put on the Extreme model for the coldest days, but I now suspect the comfort range extends to warmer temperatures than I expected. But I take back any side-eyeing I’ve ever done because they are indeed incredibly effective and I have now become a "pogie" user.

I usually put them on at the point in January when it looks like temps are going to head below 0 F for a while. I live in Colorado Springs and our winters are relatively mild by real winter standards in MN, WI, IL, etc. Because the Bar Mitts provide such stellar protection, you'll be able to use thinner gloves underneath for optimal dexterity for operating the brakes and shifters. Other key features include removable velcro cuffs which you can use if the temps are really cold, or remove if you don’t need them. Additionally, the Bar Mitts themselves are easy to install and remove as temperature changes warrant. These velcro tabs are all it takes to keep the mitts in place and they do a great job of staying in place without having the mitts shifting around on the bars.
