About this deal

Like most people in the country, I absolutely adore Michael McIntyre - I’m sure there are some people who don’t, but I haven’t met them and I don’t wish to. Michael has had a silly life, a stressful life, sometimes a moving and touching life, but always a funny life. PS the fact that he kept going off on tangents while trying to read his own audiobook was brilliant! To some degree I take the point about musicians doing new stuff – but by the same token, we love concerts to hear the music we already know. Michael McIntyre brings this wonderful autobiography to life with the kindle version that has his voice on the audio version.

His hit BBC1 show Michael McIntyre’s Big Show aired in 2016, going on to win a BAFTA for Best Entertainment Performance and a Rose D’Or Award for Best Studio Entertainment. I really love the way he sees the humour in many things that to most people are just every-day occurences! My life would have been so much easier if I could do my Live at the Apollo and Royal Variety sets until I’m old and grey, but the truth is nobody wants to hear a joke twice. Not everyone will like you, and they don't have to, but performing to people who don't get it is tough.Despite how much he uses his own life for inspiration for routines, it should come as no surprise that there is so much more. Michael narrates his audiobook which added so much to the fun of it, as he goes off on mini little tangents through out. Life has certainly been unusual, silly, and at times stressful for Michael, but above all it has been a funny life. From a biography perspective, it was interesting to see his rise in showbiz and especially learn about his relationship with his agent, but I felt the book turned into a bit of a cycle of "my agent pushed me to do this new thing, I was uncomfortable but did it anyway, it went great and I made a lot of money then bought xyz with it and won this award". Michael has had a silly life, a stressful life, sometimes a moving and touching life, but always A Funny Life.

Being such a huge fan of Michael over the years it was wonderful to see behind the curtain of his famous jokes, amazing performances and shows that I love so much.I don’t watch a lot of comedy these days and I truly cannot stand what many people seem to love, but he’s an exception. What a brilliant book and the most down to earth, sincere and humble gentleman I have read about, and this book is just as good as his first book, absolutely fantastic. With his trademark observational wit and absolute candour, Michael looks back on the incredible highs and lows on the journey to becoming the biggest-selling comedian in the world. In addition to stand-up, Michael hosts the smash-hit television shows Michael McIntyre's Big Show (which won him a BAFTA for Best Entertainment Performance) and Michael McIntyre's The Wheel. The book, therefore, is a continuation from where the previous book appears to have left readers – on the point when Michael is about to start becoming successful – up to the point when he really is successful.

Since then Michael has become one of the most successful comedians in the world, with his tours selling over four million tickets. In A Funny Life, Michael honestly and hilariously shares the highs and the lows of his rise to the top and desperate attempts to stay there. His observations of every day life and all it's quirks are what makes him so funny because he relates to all of us in some way. The voice and acting of his agent Addison not only made me feel my life was lesser for never knowing the man, but also made me feel so happy whenever he turned up or rang up. So I was so pleased to see that this book finds Michael striving for new goals, and is still every bit as entertaining as he finds the road to continued success can still be filled with pitfalls, as well as rewards. I have been enjoying Michael McIntyre’s work for many years and saw him live in Cardiff back in 2018.
